Yoga is an exercise that is normally practice on a mat. This being the case, a practitioner will have to use a mat during the yoga sessions. As we all know, there are different sizes of mats. At the same time, their thickness will vary. This being the case, a person can be able to know which yoga mat they would feel most comfortable with. As a result, most of the time people are wondering if a thick yoga mat will be advisable for them. In most cases, you will find that there are two major sizes of yoga mats.

These are the normal and double thick mats. The normal mats are those that are normally of the thickness of an eight of an inch. This is the standard thickness for yoga mats. When it comes to the double thick mats, you will find that their size will change. In most cases, you will find that they have a thickness that is normally a quarter of an inch. The first thing to consider when you are choosing a mat is the area that you are going to practice your yoga. If you are going to practice at home, then you can choose to have a thick mat. In the vent that you are going to practice yoga in a gym or somewhere that is a distance from home, then a thick mat is not advisable. This is attributed to the bulkiness of traveling with it to and from your yoga class.

The second thing that will make you choose a thick or normal mat is your experience when you are doing yoga. You will find that if you feel like you are getting hurt when you are practicing yoga, then you will need to get a thick mat. This is because of the fact that you will be able to enjoy the yoga better when you hands and knees are not screaming from the pain that they are experiencing when you are practicing. Thirdly, the type of yoga that you are practicing will also decide the type of mat that you will use. Yoga has different types of practices. This being the case, you will find that there are some that will require one to be in a position where their joints or a part of their body rests for a long time. If this is the case, a thick mat will be advisable so that it can protect the part of the body from experiencing pressure when they are in a particular position.

The best way to know if a mat is good for you would be to practice some yoga on it before you buy it. Ask the store assistant if you can try the mat before you make a decision. This will help you gauge whether a thick mat would be best for you or if just a normal mat would be more comfortable.
